Today, Local 49 members who work at nine metro area wastewater treatment plants ratified a three-year agreement with the Metropolitan Council.
The agreement includes 18% raises over the next three years and other improvements, with no concessions. This is a well-deserved increase and the strongest gain in decades for this agreement.
About 2.7 million people in 111 cities in the Twin Cities metro area rely on the wastewater treatment plants to clean the water that drains from toilets, showers, washing machines and more.
“I want to thank the stewards who served on the negotiating committee for their tireless work on behalf of the membership to obtain this agreement,” Local 49 Business Manager Jason George said. “They were prepared, they had factual information, and they represented their co-workers incredibly well through this challenging process. The wage gains achieved were well earned, and hard fought for. These highly skilled members keep our lakes and rivers clean by treating the wastewater in the seven-county metro area. Local 49 had their back the whole way, as we always will. We are proud to represent these hard-working men and women, and we appreciate what they do for everyone in the Twin Cities community.”
