Mark Pothen

Mark Pothen has been chief of staff for Local 49 since 2018 and a member since 1999. He has also served as vice president since November 2024.

Pothen started in construction in 1997 in the paving/asphalt industry. He worked for Midwest Asphalt in 1999, and then for C.S. McCrossan from 2000 to 2003, mainly in their Maple Grove sand and gravel pit.

In 2004 Pothen was hired as an organizer working out of the Minneapolis office before going on to administer the Market Recovery Program. In late 2006 he became a public sector business agent and represented public sector members until 2017.

Pothen also served on the Executive Board (Region 1) from 2013 through 2017. He currently serves as the chair of the Training and Apprenticeship Trust Fund, and sits on the board of the Building Trades Credit Union.
