Today, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 announced that John Pollard will serve as the union’s new Legislative Director.
Pollard will be responsible for the union’s day-to-day legislative affairs, public policy advocacy, and political efforts, which emphasize a member-centered, non-partisan approach. He will build on the proud tradition of advocacy centered around job creation and union rights that has made Local 49 one of the most politically impactful organizations in the region. He brings with him 20 years of experience.
“We have a passion for representing and advocating for our membership in all areas of our work, and John brings an incredible depth of experience and knowledge of the legislative process from both the legislative and executive branches. He has experience in labor issues, pensions, transportation, and capital investment projects. We are excited to bring him on to the team to work on behalf of our members,” said Jason George, Business Manager for the IUOE Local 49.
Most recently, Pollard served as the Chief of Staff to the Senate DFL caucus and previously served under two administrations as the Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs Director at Minnesota Management and Budget (the state’s budget and human resources agency). Prior to the executive branch, he served both House and Senate Majority Leaders as the Chief of Staff, Executive Assistant, Communications Director, and Committee Administrator to the Senate Transportation and Public Safety Budget Division.
“It is an honor to be named to this position, and I am excited to work tirelessly on behalf of the over 14,000 highly skilled members that work in so many areas of the construction industry. I went into public service because I love my home state, and these men and women have built the upper midwest into the great place it is to live and raise our families,” said Pollard.
When not working at the capitol, John enjoys fishing, coaching football, cheering on his favorite musician in the U of M marching band, and spending time with family.
