
Local 49 sending members
The Local 49 Executive Board will select up to 10 members to send to the 2023 Tradeswomen Build Nations conference, with expenses paid. The annual event, hosted by NABTU (North America’s Building Trades Unions), is Dec. 1-3 in Washington D.C. this year. To be considered for selection, you must fill out an application no later than Monday, Sept. 4, 2023.
What is it?
Tradeswomen Build Nations is the largest gathering of tradeswomen in the world and draws union tradeswomen and men from all the trades. It includes nationally recognized speakers, as well as breakout sessions about topics relevant to women in the trades and those who support them.
Who is eligible?
Anyone who is an active, dues-paying member in good standing of Local 49 may apply.
How do I apply?
To apply, you must fill out the online application available here. In selecting applicants, the Executive Board will consider factors such as whether applicants have attended the conference in the past, geographic distribution, inclusion of apprentices and journey workers, why applicants want to attend, and more.
Timeline:
- Sept. 4: Application deadline
- Sept. 20: Announcement of selected members at General Membership Meeting in Minneapolis
- Friday, Sept. 22: Selected applicants notified by this date
The ‘fine print’
If you are selected, Local 49 will pay the registration and hotel expenses associated with this conference. It is your responsibility to cover other conference-related expenses, with eligible expenses reimbursed by Local 49 upon your return. Eligible expenses include economy/main cabin airfare, meals, transportation and parking. Local 49 will not reimburse for alcohol or entertainment. If you have to miss work to attend, Local 49 will reimburse you for your lost wages. You must purchase airfare and provide your receipt to the Local by Nov. 1, 2023. You must submit receipts for reimbursement within 31 days after the conference. Local 49 will reserve one hotel room per attendee for the evenings of Thursday, Nov. 30; Friday, Dec. 1; and Saturday, Dec. 2. If you stay other nights, you are responsible to reserve and pay for your own room. Applications are open to all active, dues-paying members in good standing of Local 49, and the Executive Board will approve up to 10 members to attend. Those selected to attend the conference will be notified by Friday, Sept. 22.
