Lobby Day 2010 scheduled for March 23rd at State Capitol

Lawmakers doing little about our suffering; Lobby Day is your chance to get their attention

Local 49’s political team and its members plan on bringing a simple but powerful message to legislators for Lobby Day 2010: Start worrying about middle class workers who need jobs, not the CEO’s, who are doing just fine.

Jason George and Adam Duininck are looking forward to joining workers for Local 49’s second annual Lobby Day on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Minnesota’s State Capitol.

Last March, in a tremendous show of unity, about 150 Forty-Niners converged on the state house in St. Paul to flex their political muscle. The event drew rave reviews from members as Operators from across the state participated.

“It was an impressive turnout, showing the kind of commitment necessary to help further our political goals,” said Local 49’s Business Manager Glen Johnson. “We need the same kind of enthusiasm this year to show those holding the purse strings the significance of funding and supporting legislation that will create jobs.”

This year, Operating Engineers plan on taking one main message to the state’s leaders: PUT US TO WORK!

“We hear about record profits and big bonuses every day, it’s obvious that Wall Street is out of this recession,”says Local 49’s Political Organizer Jason George. “But middle- class workers aren’t so lucky. Our members are still without work, our members are still losing their homes, our members are still losing their health care coverage.

Please join us! Members will meet at the Minneapolis Local 49 Union Hall at 8:30AM for coffee and rolls. Following a briefing, we will board busses to the Capitol and meet with our legislators. Appointments with your legislators will be made for you ahead of time. Busses back to Local 49’s Minneapolis Union Hall will leave the Capitol at 2:45pm.
